Care of worktops

Wooden worktops are naturally beautiful and durable. They can enhance the quality and class of any kitchen, whether traditional or modern. With proper care and maintenance they can be as long lasting as any other worksurface, and minor damage can be more easily fixed. Modern worktops are usually obtained from renewable sources, they use relatively little energy in manufacture and are environmentally friendly, They can be expensive to buy initially but the pleasure of ownership they give and the durability they offer more than justifies this.

To keep wooden worktops at their best they need regular maintenance.

With proper care and maintenance wooden worktops can last for many years and stay looking ‘fresh’, outlasting cheaper alternatives and easily justfying the investment in them. Minor damage, scuffs and scratches can be repaired easily.

Regular maintenance is the key to protecting wooden worktops and keeping them looking attractive. Worktops should be re-oiled regularly, especially early on when they will be more absorbant. After initial oiling as reccommended we would suggest re-oiling every week to start, then monthly, then at least every six months to keep wood at its best.

Things stood in one place for a long period can result in uneven ageing due to natural weathering from sunlight.

Use cutting/chopping boards.
